Psilocybin and Related Compounds

Psilocybin is a naturally-occurring psychedelic compound, and the main ingredient in “magic mushrooms.” By activating serotonin and other receptors in the brain, psilocybin can significantly alter an individual’s mood, cognition, and how they see and interpret their environment.

The “Entourage Effect”

Mushrooms that produce psilocybin also contain psilocin, baeocystin, norbaeocystin, beta-carbolines, and other compounds that can enhance the effect of psilocybin. This combination of compounds is commonly referred to as the “entourage effect.”

Alone or together, these two closely-related compounds are likely the safest, most effective, and most naturally-informed psychedelics available for treating mental health conditions. Each can be synthetically created or extracted from naturally grown mushrooms. At Zylorion, we believe that both approaches can support beneficial approaches.

Psilocybin has been used for thousands of years for spiritual, cultural, and medicinal purposes. It is not naturally addictive.

Studies suggest that psilocybin can be used to treat many conditions, including: depression, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, and addictions.

A Renaissance of Research

Recently, psilocybin was approved by the FDA to study if it is effective in treating severe treatment-resistant depression and major depressive disorders. As a result of the increase in research from psychedelic assisted therapies this “Breakthrough” designation was granted in 2018.

Since this change in status, a renaissance of research has emerged. LSD, psilocybin, MDMA, DMT, ketamine and other psychedelic substances for treating depression, PTSD, addiction, and other forms of mental illness are being studied more than ever before.

Creating unique product-development approaches that facilitate IP-protection and commercial opportunities is a critical part of our mission. Zylorion plans to offer several products for the treatment of a wide range of mood, anxiety, and trauma-related conditions.
